This military spec GE 12AY7 tube has gray box plates and a windmill getter. The white print on the glass has the GE logo and reads JG-12AY7.

Tube tests as premium new with very low noise.

The first time I substitued a 12AY7 for a 12AX7 in my amp's V1 slot, I used a GE 12AY7 box plate. I liked it so well that I never moved it. Many tube-philes agree that a 12AY7 is the one of the most musical tubes ever made. It is quiet and has plently of current to carry the signal through today's multi-gain guitar amps. The result is a more "tweed sounding" amp.
